On our South Africa retreat, we partner with Eternal Flame Worldwide and Africa’s Gift, where we work directly with communities to address one of Lesotho’s most pressing health issues. More than 30% of Lesotho’s citizens have suffered health problems caused by smoke from traditional cooking methods, with children under five among the most affected.
This retreat makes a direct difference by:
- Guests personally contribute 60 cook bags while taking part in the production process.
- Each cook bag supports a family of 4–6 people, meaning our contributions from just one retreat, benefit over 3000 lives.
- These efforts help free the cook—often women and mothers—from time poverty and protect her from the dangers of daily smoke inhalation.
Most of the rural population of Lesotho are subsistence farmers. To help them get the most out of their land Africa's Gift has established a teaching farm, demonstrating conservation agriculture, in the Malealea valley.
As a Retreats with Impact guest, your contribution makes a difference to community members’ lives through this upskilling of local farmers. As part of the retreat, we visit a teaching farm to see conservation agriculture in practice and the community school and kindergarten to connect with those whom these contributions are supporting.
